My father drinks to much (alcoholic). Should I tell him he can't be around my kids ever again or just leave early when he drinks?

I feel banning them would be punishing them for my Dad's flaws but my sister insists they could become alcoholics if they see their alcoholic grandfather a couple times a year (we see him about once every other month).
