Park himself was engrossed from the first scene in the book

Park introduces a third obstacle: that of race, as the mistress is Japanese and the handmaiden is Korean. This additional obstacle means that it is even more moving when the two lovers came together. Did it make a difference having a female co-scriptwriter?
