These kinds of stories fed our imaginations as we grew

But to those of us who grew up alongside the prison, the park remains a dark cradle of historical misery. Between 1919 and 1959, forty-four inmates had been executed there just a block from our neighbourhood. One kid told us that the prison guards used to weigh down dead prisoners with stones and throw them into lake.
