What international law exactly do they have on their side?

Plus former Mexican territory includes the territory from the Gadsden Purchase and Texas. What international law would that be exactly? We're not Occupying Mexican land, that's absurd. Mexico refused to settle it peacefully. It would've eventually fallen apart in revolt like Texas.
